Critical Thinking !

For my critical thinking piece I chose our first group activity in the Identity Unit. This assignment allowed us to practice and share our analyzing skills with our peers. This assignment made us dig deep into the reading of each assigned essay, pulling out thesis statements and supporting ideas. It made me stay focused on the task which was to compare the essay's and to ask myself would the two author's agree with each other's arguments. That is why I selected this specific assignment. I was able to pull out the controlling idea that limited my focus only on the one point that both author's agree on. They were both struggling to to have their true identities shown. For example I took out a quote that described Kathy Wilson's fight for her identity to be seen without shallow preception, "My point is, people get so twisted over female presentation that my bald head is cause for pause." (22) By choosing quotes such as this one I showed the critical thinking skill obtained by pulling ideas together to create a concrete analysis.
